Juan Carlos Garces,
Beloved Son

Dear Zumba students and Friends of Juan Carlos Organization,

I want to share with you that this month of May is a bittersweet time in my life, and I will appreciate your understanding. Monday, May 12, will mark the 15th anniversary of the passing of my son, Juan Carlos Garces, at the age of 15 from Muscular Dystrophy. With this anniversary, he has been gone now for the same number of years that he was at my side day by day. This anniversary of his passing will be a difficult one for me, as it falls the day after Mother's Day. I will take some days away from teaching classes. I will be out of town May 9-12.

But there is another important anniversary this month, too: May 4 marks the second anniversary of the day that Juan Carlos Organization became a reality. The pain of losing Juan Carlos has been softened a little by the growth of this program of classes. For many years I rarely heard his name mentioned, but these days conversations with people about Juan Carlos classes happen daily in my life. I am grateful to all of you for your interest in and support of this program. It is a wonderful legacy of a young man who helped me and others understand just how much it means to a person with disabilities to have a chance to be active in some way.

Maybe this month you, too, are remembering someone whose memory is dear to you. You are invited to forward a Tribute to your loved one to be included in this new feature on the Juan Carlos web site: www.jcorg.org/tributes.html. All Tributes are welcome.

With sincere appreciation,
Lisbeth Garces
